Building communities to prepare and respond to disasters
CARE India’s Disaster Management initiative works to provide rapid and effective relief measures to the regions impacted by natural calamities. Our strategy encompasses Preparedness, Response, Recovery, and Rehabilitation with an approach of ‘Building Back Safer’.
CARE India carries out an annual risk profiling and mapping of vulnerable locations in India to enhance its preparedness to respond during emergencies. Long-term engagement with the affected communities and efforts made to provide them immediate relief for recovery are the primary focus of our Disaster Management mandate.
See how we make a difference Through Timely Support
Natural disasters often leave people vulnerable to homelessness and hunger. At our disaster relief camps, we begin by offering rehabilitation and food packages to the affected areas, ensuring that immediate and targeted assistance reaches those in need.
COVID19: Relief Activities
Athrout demonstrated proactive involvement during the COVID-19 pandemic by meticulously identifying and locating vulnerable families who lacked any means of support. Through a unified effort, we effectively distributed essential rations to those in need. We also ensured the timely delivery of oxygen tanks to individuals who were unable to access them independently.
Flood relied and rehabiliation
In the wake of the 2014 floods, Athrout mobilized to provide critical assistance to the affected communities. The floods had left numerous families devastated, facing displacement and limited access to basic necessities. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, we ensured that families get the necessary rehabilitation support to rebuild their lives.
COVID-19 Relief - Save The Daily Wagers, Elders And Street Children In kashmir
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Athrout launched a comprehensive relief initiative in Kashmir with a primary focus on protecting the most vulnerable segments of society. Our mission was to provide essential support to daily wage earners who were disproportionately affected by lockdowns and economic hardships, and to ensure the well-being of the elderly population, who faced heightened health risks. Additionally, we extended our care to street children, offering them protection, sustenance, and access to education.
Through these combined efforts, Athrout helped not only to mitigate immediate challenges but also to provide a lifeline of hope and support.
